pascal brateau artistic works

pascal brateau's works probe the archetypal form of the house, its image and perception, and question a place or concept in order to reveal its genius loci.
"He invites us not to explore the architectural forms of our habitats, but to think about what inhabits us and the way it inhabits us. For him, the inhabited reveals a relationship to the world that is specific to a community and the prefabricated representations that they bring with them. Through his obsessive formal questioning, he thus encourages us to re-imagine the essence of what animates each one of us from within." (MC)

pascal brateau is an artist architect. Graduated from the architecture schools of Nancy and Toulouse, he shares now his time between Nancy and Berlin. Co-founder of the dbdarchitects studio, he is also involved in the cultural association Werkstadt e.V. and founded virgule3 with the artist Aurélie Pertusot, a without-space-project aimed at supporting the creation of networks between Berlin and French artists.
Leading a sculptural practice through a constructive and volumetric research and a theoretical questioning on the relationship between spirit and space through the image of the house in the collective mind, his work slides from architecture to art with the question of the inhabited. His creations are mainly inscribed in the public space, in the form of sculptures/installations.
